Grace & St. Peter’s Church in Baltimore invites you to the formal installation and blessing of a new icon honoring Adeline Blanchard Tyler (1805–1875), written by the Rev. Tobias Stanislaus Haller, BSG.

An icon of Adeline Blanchard Tyler

The Solemn Evensong and Benediction will take place on Sunday, November 15, at 5:00 PM in the Lady Chapel of Grace & St. Peter’s Church, 707 Park Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

A reception will immediately follow the service, featuring a curated display of pertinent artifacts, historical images, and documents highlighting Deaconess Tyler’s life and ministry.

Set apart in 1856, Adeline Blanchard Tyler and her companions were the first deaconesses in the Episcopal Church, serving in Maryland and Pennsylvania for nearly a decade.

Deacon Daphne B. Noyes—a board member of the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church, whose research on Tyler was supported by both the Historical Society and and the Episcopal Women’s History Project —will be on hand to welcome fellow members, friends, and guests.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate this landmark piece of Church history.
