The Historical Society of the Episcopal Church and the Historiographer of The Episcopal Church are partnering on an exciting new initiative: the Diocesan History Contact Project. Together, we are creating a comprehensive directory of archivists, historiographers, and key history contacts across every diocese in The Episcopal Church.
Why does this matter?
This directory will be a powerful tool for strengthening communication, fostering collaboration, and connecting those who are dedicated to preserving and sharing the Church’s history. It will allow the Historical Society, the Historiographer, and others to share resources, exchange ideas, and encourage one another in the important work of telling our story.
Phase One: Scatter Seeds
Between now and the end of October, we’re inviting everyone to help us gather contacts. Using a simple Google form, you can share information about history contacts in any diocese. Even one name can make a difference in building this vital network.
Phase Two: Filling the Gaps
A project assistant will follow up with dioceses that haven’t yet responded, ensuring that every diocese has at least one identified contact person.
The Goal
By the end of this project, we aim to have a living, up-to-date directory that will serve as a resource not only for the Historical Society and the Historiographer, but also for dioceses, organizations, and individuals interested in collaboration.
You Can Help
We can’t do this without you. By submitting names through the form, you’ll be part of laying the foundation for a stronger, more connected community of church historians and archivists. Together, we will ensure that the history of each diocese is valued, preserved, and shared.
Stay tuned—the seeds you scatter now will grow into a flourishing network that strengthens our collective memory and enriches our common life.
